Launch of the Code of Practice on Chief Executives and Board of Directors WSH Duties

18 Oct 2022 Announcements

Chief Executives and the Board of Directors (known as “Company Directors”) steer the operations and oversee management of their organisation.  The influence and authority they wield is key to uplifting workplace safety and health (WSH) standards at work.

To protect their employees’ lives and well-being, Company Directors must prioritise WSH and set the safety culture for their organisations. Section 48(1) of the Workplace Safety and Health Act has always held all Company Directors responsible, and to prove that they had exercised due diligence to prevent workplace accidents.

This Code of Practice has been developed to expound on the WSH Act and provide greater clarity on and strengthen WSH ownership of Company Directors. The Code of Practice also lists available resources that can aid Company Directors in their efforts to discharge their duties and uphold WSH standards at their workplaces.

The Code of Practice was launched by Dr Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower, at The Singapore WSH Conference 2022 on 19 September 2022.
